What is powerplaying?
Powerplaying is when you harm another player's character in character without their permission. This leads to unnecessary kills, wounds, and lots of other issues that could be prevented if you didn't powerplay.
Why is powerplaying so important?
As said above, powerplay can lead to many issues amongst members, sometimes even causing a fight between the members. This can lead to deaths of characters without the user wanting them to, very poorly fought battles because the player can not defend themselves, and staff does not have the time to sort all of that out. So if you just abide by this rule, it'll be easier on everyone.
What are some examples of powerplaying?
Okay, this is a frequent problem, because people don't know what powerplaying looks like, so here are some examples:
Max flew towards the filthy vulture, pinning it down and pushing his beak in it's ugly face. "Now." He screeched. "Why are you in this territory? It belongs to the Sky Kingdom!"
This is an example of powerplaying because Max the eagle has pinned down the vulture without giving the other user a chance to defend. It is up to them wether the attack actually hits or not. The correct way to say it would be:
Max flew towards the filthy vulture, aiming to pin it down on the cliff. "Why are you in the Sky kingdom's territory?" He screeched as he aimed for it's neck.
This is not an example of powerplaying, because it is not forcing the other player to do anything. The user that plays the vulture could simply dodge it, or just let it hit, it's up to them.
Here is an example of what could go wrong if someone powerplays:
Flora screeched in fury as she lunged at the vulture, talons outstretched. SHe felt the satisfaction as it hit, and dug straight through the filthy beast's heart, killing it instantly.
See? The person has just killed another player's character! That's not what the other player wants, but if they had said it this way:
Flora screeched in fury as she lunged at the vulture, talons outstretched, aiming for it's heart. There wouldn't be the problem of powerplaying.
Powerplaying is any form of controlling other people's characters, whether by saying that they are ahead, having OOC arrangements and making it happen in RP'ing.
Pretend if someone had arranged for a group to come to another group's aid. They would also have to meet while RP'ing.
That's all the basics you need to know about powerplaying. If you need any more help, feel free to PM either me or one of the other staff!
